The engine pictured is a direct injection 4 cylinder of 236 cubic inches/3.8 litre, this being one of the later models it is one of the last versions featuring the many improvements and updates made to this engine model since being introduced.

One of the most desirable improvements was the switch to a full lip oil seal on the crank at both ends rather than relying on the leaky rope seal of earlier models along with "pencil" type injectors giving improved power and cleaner, quiter running. So is more than suitable for powering a vehicle, tractor or industrial plant machine which is why this engine and its predecessors was so popular in those applications. It is still fitted with the special engine mounts, water outlet, modified sump, vacuum pump for your brake servo, alternator, starter motor, back plate and flywheel to suit refitting into a Range Rover/Discovery or Land Rover should you wish. It starts up instantly with only a little blue smoke till its warmed up a bit , like all Perkins do, then as the video shows there's no smoke worth mentioning. Runs sweet throughout the rev range, capable of revving up to nearly 3000 rpm so will give a good turn of speed in a tractor.

Fair oil pressure of 40 to 50 psi cold and around 30 to 40 hot, no excessive breathing and no knocks or rattles. No leaks or frost cracks etc, it is a very good example of a second hand engine which I wouldn't hesitate in fitting to something as it is.
